Trust: A Scarce Resource?
We’re heading into a trust recession.
Not because people suddenly became dishonest.
But because everything now sounds competent.
AI can write a perfect email.
A flawless explanation.
A calm, confident response that reads exactly how a professional should sound.
And that’s the problem.
When everyone sounds competent, competence stops being a signal.
In 2026, clients will be surrounded by:
Polished explanations.
Smooth language.
Confident projections.
Perfectly formatted reassurance.
Most of it generated.
Some of it understood.
Very little of it owned.
Trust used to be built through access to information.
Now information is infinite.
Trust used to come from responsiveness.
Now everyone responds instantly.
Wait a minute... do they?
Really?
No - not in our business they do not.
This is perhaps one of the single biggest areas of opportunity to impress your referral partners and clients.
Speed of response!
Speed builds trust.
Trust used to come from sounding smart.
Now sounding smart is cheap.
So what’s left?
Speed.
Reliability.
Consistency.
Follow-through.
Doing the boring things well, repeatedly.
Trust is built when:
You return the call you said you would.
You flag the risk before it becomes a problem.
You don’t oversell the outcome.
You explain the downside(s) clearly.
You stay steady when things wobble.
None of that is flashy.
None of it scales instantly.
But, all of it compounds.
The brokers who struggle in 2026 will be the inconsistent operators.
Clients won’t leave because someone else had better tech.
They’ll leave because something didn’t feel reliable.
A missed detail.
A rushed explanation.
A moment where confidence seemed forced.
In a world full of AI-generated competence, trust becomes the differentiator.
And trust is slow.
It’s built rep by rep.
File by file.
Call by call.
Decision by decision.
This is why speed without judgment is dangerous.
And why 'optionality' without standards collapses under pressure.
The brokers who win in 2026 will be:
Predictable
Calm
Clear
Hard to surprise
Clients don’t want brilliance right now.
They want stability.
They want someone who doesn’t disappear when things get complicated.
Someone who doesn’t vanish under pressure.
Someone whose behaviour matches their words.
That’s trust.
And once it’s earned, it becomes very difficult to replace.
Next week, we’ll talk about constraint, and why saying no more often might be the most profitable move you make this year.
